Gärde Design is a Stockholm-based design studio partnering with founders who move fast and think long-term. Marcus Gärde
Founder & Creative Director

Marcus Gärde is a graphic designer, author, and creative director with over 20 years of experience building typography-led brand systems at the intersection of culture and commerce. Rooted in analogue design and print culture, his work treats design not as surface, but as structure, clarity, and value creation.


After serving as Creative Director at Bold Scandinavia, Marcus founded Gärde Design in 2021 with a clear ambition: to reposition design as a business driver rather than a cost. The studio partners with ambitious organizations to create scalable, high-performance identity systems across digital and physical environments.


Typography is central to this philosophy. Through GD Foundry, the studio’s independent type foundry, Marcus works to ensure that custom type remains a strategic asset in an age of automation.


Marcus is the author of two books on typography, has taught at leading design institutions in Sweden, and has received international recognition including Guldägget, European Design Awards, and Utvald Svensk Bokkonst.
